Popular Culture

Popular culture has definitely shaped at least one aspect in everyone’s lives. Individuals tend to be put into groups. Examples can include children, teens, young adults and adults. In America’s culture, these groups of individuals are expected to act in a certain manner. Popular culture has also forced its way into our lives with things like celebrities, TV shows, movies, and books. Popular culture has even guided me into my clothing style and other things that grab my attention.
Celebrities and Hollywood are by far the biggest cause of popular culture. While popular culture is not a bad thing, the examples that young Hollywood stars are setting is reason enough to turn off the TV and pick up a book every once in awhile. Mass media helps in spreading the biggest trends around the world. The media also has a way of telling people what is right and what is wrong. Some individuals even base their morals on what they see and think is right in the entertainment world.
Popular culture helps define what we as Americana think of the different age groups and how they should act. Popular culture also gives Americans an idea as to what other countries are like and how they respond to American culture. I imagine that people try and imitate what they believe is cool to fit in. Or people are affected by popular culture because that is all they watch, see, and hear about. Everyone is different in their own way and in the end it’s yourself you have to answer to, not Hollywood.

i agree, popular culture is based on what the stars think is in, and people follow along because they're famous. It's better when you like what you like because you like it not what someone tells you to like.

i agree that you cant help to like some of the things that are considered popular and be influenced by them. i also agree with you that some of what you see on tv with the stars is just crazy and it is good just to shut th tv off and just do something else to get your mind away from some of it.

I agree with you with the whole celebrities shouldn’t always be emulated idea. My little sister watches some of those shows and if I’m in the room when she’s leaving, she gives me the tv and first thing I do is find something else to watch (or I also quite frequently have either my laptop or a book with me while I’m up there anyway).
