Technology

Technology is extremely important. We use it in our everyday lives. Without technology there would be no cars to get to class or work. The use of my laptop and ipod are just two examples of technology that I use everyday. The human race has come so far in the technology field. Even people in third world countries use technology to some extent. Without technology there would be no entertainment. Technology is always changing. Without the constant upgrading of our ideas and concepts, we would be in a lot of trouble. For all we know, humans could still be riding a horse to work without technology. We all need to thank scientists, the people who get technology and like figuring things out to make them better. Without the passion that scientists have, we would have never gotten this far in the world. Scientists are always coming up with better ways of doing something. My original point was that technology has influenced all of us and will continue to change for the better. Thanks for reading!

Cyber Culture

I have had a ton of experience with cyber culture. For the most part I grew up on a computer. Whether it was in school or at home I have always had access to one. When I was younger my friends and I would email each other. When Aim came out we sat and talked for long periods of time. Now I am still using Aim. I also use myspace and facebook. These websites help me keep in touch with the people I have graduated with.
Cyber culture has affected my life in both positive and negative ways. Technology has made school projects easier. I am able to talk with another person who could be half way across the world. There are also some negative aspects to cyber culture. There are all sorts of information available to anyone who has a computer. Cyber culture has definitely met expectations. I am sure that cyber culture will someday in the near future astound me with something new.

Popular Culture

Popular culture has definitely shaped at least one aspect in everyone’s lives. Individuals tend to be put into groups. Examples can include children, teens, young adults and adults. In America’s culture, these groups of individuals are expected to act in a certain manner. Popular culture has also forced its way into our lives with things like celebrities, TV shows, movies, and books. Popular culture has even guided me into my clothing style and other things that grab my attention.
Celebrities and Hollywood are by far the biggest cause of popular culture. While popular culture is not a bad thing, the examples that young Hollywood stars are setting is reason enough to turn off the TV and pick up a book every once in awhile. Mass media helps in spreading the biggest trends around the world. The media also has a way of telling people what is right and what is wrong. Some individuals even base their morals on what they see and think is right in the entertainment world.
Popular culture helps define what we as Americana think of the different age groups and how they should act. Popular culture also gives Americans an idea as to what other countries are like and how they respond to American culture. I imagine that people try and imitate what they believe is cool to fit in. Or people are affected by popular culture because that is all they watch, see, and hear about. Everyone is different in their own way and in the end it’s yourself you have to answer to, not Hollywood.

Hello!

My first assignment in English 105 is to describe ourself. I am a 2nd semester freshman at Purdue Calumet. I have two younger sisters. In addition to my sisters, I have 4 step-siblings. My family has two dogs named Jake and Kobie. We also have a snake named Monty. When I am not in class I like to spend time with family and friends. I think it is really important to make time not only for yourself but for the people who will always be there for you. I think it is what helps keep MOST people grounded. Since the semester just began, I wish everyone luck!
